According to Linda Robins, Music Department Chair, “The students are rapidly becoming Steinway fans! It is so exciting to watch their response as they not only play the instrument, but even as they listen to the instrument. There is an automatic ‘oh my, listen to how the piano sings’ response. The practice room schedules are full, and the students are definitely increasing in their piano skills with the Steinways. The performance level is rising!”

“Having Steinways in our practice rooms at school has been absolutely amazing,” commented student Hannah Borden. “Now when I practice, I can make each note come to life in a way that can only happen on a Steinway. Practicing is the highlight of my day! I am so thankful for God providing us with these Steinways. Because of them, I am able to move on to the next level as a pianist, and ultimately as a minister in music.”

The SAGU Music Department is in the process of raising funds for twenty-five Steinway pianos and thus achieve its goal of becoming an All-Steinway School. So far, with the help of donors, SAGU has purchased four Roland digital pianos for classrooms, four Boston upright pianos for practice rooms, three Steinway studio pianos for practice rooms, two Steinway vertical grand pianos for faculty offices, and a 6’2” grand piano for the Rehearsal Hall.

SAGU is approximately $300,000 short of reaching All-Steinway status. This remaining figure represents two Steinway studio pianos for practice rooms, two 5’10” Steinway grand pianos for faculty offices, four Steinway studio pianos for faculty offices and a 9’ Steinway concert grand piano for the FLC Chapel. If you are interested in contributing to the fundraising efforts of this project, contact Linda Robins, Music Department Chair at SAGU.

On Tuesday, June 23, Steinway Hall Dallas delivered the first two of twenty-five Steinway pianos to the SAGU Music Department. SAGU is in the process of becoming an All-Steinway School.

As SAGU continues to grow and expand curriculum, the Music Department’s goal is to provide students with the best musical instruments available. By investing in Steinways, SAGU is demonstrating, in the words of Steinway & Sons, “a commitment to excellence by providing their students and faculty with the best equipment possible for the study of music.”

SAGU will become the first A/G institution to achieve the All-Steinway School status. The university will also join an elite class of institutions exclusively using Steinway pianos. This class includes The Juilliard School in New York, Yale School of Music, and Carnegie-Mellon University School of Music.

For over 150 years, Steinway & Sons has been dedicated to the ideal of making the finest pianos in the world. Steinway & Sons remains committed to individual craftsmanship, each year producing a limited number of handmade pianos, considered by many to be the finest in the world. Over 1,300 prominent concert artists and ensembles choose to bear the title Steinway Artist.

“In keeping with our missions of excellence, SAGU is deeply committed to providing the best academic experience possible for our students,” commented Linda Robins, Music Department Chair. “This is why we need the best possible tools to assist them in achieving their goals. The inclusion of Steinway pianos in the Department of Music’s plan for growth and development ensures a standard of artistic excellence at SAGU for many years to come.”

The SAGU Music Department is in the process of raising funds for twenty-five Steinway pianos and thus achieve its goal of becoming an All-Steinway School.
Want to help? Go to http://sagu.steinwaydfw.org/instruments and check out a fun way you can get involved in helping SAGU purchase Steinway pianos. Everyone can do something – even by purchasing one key at a time. Perhaps your church, Sunday School class, choir, worship team, etc., could pool their money and purchase a set of keys or even an entire piano.

Naming rights have been established as follows:
•The individual who purchases the grand piano for the Full Life Center Chapel and/or the grand piano for the Full Life Center Mundt Room will be given a trip to the New York City Steinway facility to select the pianos.
•The rehearsal hall in the Foster Music Building will be named for the individual who purchases the two grand pianos for that room.
•Each practice room will be named for the individual or specific group of individuals who purchase the piano for the room.
•A name plate will be placed upon every piano purchased by an individual or specific group of individuals.
